The term "Buy Africa" is a reference to a song of the same name by Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The notion that people of African descent are spending billions of dollars each year yet our communities are often neglected because the majority of us spend our hard earned dollars outside of our own communities. There are various reasons why; one of which is because many of us are not exposed to the different products and services our communities offer. Enter BuyAfrica...
This quote by Fela summarizes my point,
"Because unless we buy our own thing, unless we do our own thing, we not going to make money. To be like the other countries outside Africa, that is why we have to do our own thing. Patronize our own thing so we can be rich like other countries outside Africa."
With this in mind, we hope our efforts here will lead people to consider investing in the labor and creativity of the worldwide African community- in Africa and scattered throughout the African Diaspora.
